Boone County, Kentucky has issued a drug overdose alert due to a spike in suspected nonfatal overdoses. This was announced by the Northern Kentucky Health Department, which has urged caution for those who use drugs in the area. Between June 25 and July 1, 17 overdoses were reported, which is an unusually high number for the region.
The health department recommends that drug users and those around them keep naloxone on hand in case of an overdose. Naloxone can be administered to counteract the effects of opioids and is available at various locations in Northern Kentucky through the county health centers. The health department also provides training on how to administer naloxone to those who may need it.
