Apple is developing new AirPods with an infrared camera to enhance the immersive experience of Vision Pro

In a recent development, Apple is reportedly working on new AirPods that will be designed to work seamlessly with the Apple Vision Pro. These upcoming headphones are set to feature an infrared camera that will enhance the spatial audio experience for users. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, production of these devices is expected to commence in 2026.

The tech giant has been consistently adding new features to its devices, with a particular focus on wearables and wireless earphones. The new AirPods Pro will feature functionality similar to the iPhone’s Face ID receiver, as announced by Kuo in a Medium blog post. This addition of an infrared camera will provide users with an even more immersive audio experience.

Apple’s vision is to release these next-gen headphones alongside the Apple Vision Pro, allowing sound to adjust based on the user’s head movements. By integrating a camera into the headphones, users can enhance sound sources by turning their heads towards specific directions. Furthermore, the infrared camera in the headphones will be capable of detecting changes and movements in the environment, potentially enabling gesture controls for connected devices.

Kuo reveals that Foxconn has been tapped to serve as the supplier for the camera integration, signaling Apple’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of user experience and audio quality.
