A 33-year-old man was suddenly stricken with cardiac arrest while drinking water. After more than 50 minutes of CPR, doctors at Bai Chay Hospital managed to revive him and transfer him to Quang Ninh General Hospital. The patient was then placed in the Intensive Care Unit where doctors utilized the technique of command hypothermia to regulate his body temperature and administered various treatments to address circulatory issues.
Despite the successful emergency treatment, the patient remained in critical condition with a high risk of sequelae and a low survival rate due to potential brain damage. However, after four days of treatment, the patient regained consciousness and exhibited almost no neurological sequelae.
Medical professionals are currently working diligently to determine the root cause of the patient’s cardiac arrest in order to prevent a recurrence. Studies have shown that hypothermia can greatly reduce mortality rates and the occurrence of severe sequelae in patients with brain damage following cardiac or respiratory arrest. It is crucial that hypothermia treatment is administered within 6 hours for maximum effectiveness.
Respiratory circulatory arrest is a serious condition that requires immediate attention in order to prevent death or permanent brain damage. CPR plays a vital role in maintaining the victim’s breathing and heart function, which can help prevent organ damage due to lack of oxygen circulation. Early detection and appropriate treatment are key components in ensuring a positive outcome for individuals experiencing cardiac or respiratory arrest.
