FISU World University Championship Mind Sports Showcases Polish Chess Dominance in Entebbe

The FISU World University Championship Mind Sports recently came to a close in central Uganda, with competitions featuring chess and participants from 16 countries. This was the second time that Entebbe hosted a FISU event, following their successful hosting of the FISU Championship Cross Country in 2014.

The women’s blitz event saw Poland sweep the podium, with Julia Antolak winning gold, Liwia Jarocka securing silver, and Anna Kubicka taking home bronze. In the women’s classic tournament, Aakanksha Hagawane of India emerged as the gold medal winner, with Saina Salonika finishing in second place and Poland’s Alicja Sliwicka claiming the bronze.

On the men’s side, Milosz Szpar of Poland clinched the gold medal in the classic tournament, with Yovann Gatineau and Benjamin Defromont of France finishing in second and third place, respectively. Poland continued their success in the men’s blitz chess event, with Igor Janik securing the gold medal. Richard Mladek of the Czech Republic and Richard Turcan of Slovakia finished in second and third place, respectively.

The competition in Entebbe was fierce, with Polish players making a strong impact and showcasing their talent on the world stage. It was a stellar week of chess competition that will be remembered for years to come.
