The 2024 Charleston Sternwheel Regatta is quickly approaching, and businesses like Fife Street Brewing are preparing for the anticipated influx of people downtown. John Query, General Manager of Fife Street Brewing, mentioned that they have tripled their inventory and are ready with plenty of beer and the AC cranked up for the event.
The Regatta was absent from Charleston summers since 2009 until its return in 2022. Mayor Amy Goodwin described it as the city’s “Super Bowl,” bringing life and vitality back to Charleston. The event is predicted to bring tens of millions of dollars to the local economy, with last year seeing a $37 million return on investment, up from $31 million in 2022.
Goodwin highlighted the significance of the Regatta, stating that the money it generates could fund the construction of the West Virginia Capitol three times over. She mentioned that managing expectations is crucial as the success of the event is dependent on factors like weather. Anticipated attendance numbers are expected to exceed 200,000 people.
According to Query, various events in Charleston during the summer season, such as bike races and FestivALL, contribute to driving sales for businesses like Fife Street Brewing. He expressed gratitude towards both local customers and visitors who come to the city for these events.
The 2024 Charleston Sternwheel Regatta is scheduled to take place from July 3-7, bringing a buzz of excitement and economic growth to the city.
