Genoa goalkeeper Josep Martinez is set to undergo medical exams in preparation for his move to Inter Milan, according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio. The Nerazzurri are close to finalizing the deal for Martinez, whom they see as a successor to Yann Sommer in goal.
The negotiations between Inter and Genoa have been ongoing for several weeks, with both clubs initially considering a player-plus-cash deal before settling on a straight cash transfer. It is believed that Inter will pay Genoa around €15 million for Martinez, including add-ons. The 26-year-old goalkeeper is expected to sign a five-year contract with Inter until June 2029 and earn €1.5 million per season, reportedly.
Inter had looked at several goalkeepers as potential signings, including Bento from Athletico Paranaense, Maduka Okoye from Udinese, and Christos Mandas from Lazio. However, Martinez emerged as the top choice for the Italian club after extensive scouting and evaluation.
Martinez’s agent has been in contact with Inter for some time now, leading to the agreement of his transfer. With his medicals scheduled for tomorrow, Martinez is poised to officially join Inter’s squad and begin training with them for the upcoming season.
