Chelsea midfielder Leupolz transfers to Real Madrid

At 30 years old, Melanie Leupolz has officially left Chelsea and joined Real Madrid. She had a successful four-year spell with the Women’s Super League team, winning eight major trophies during her time there. In her final season with Chelsea, she made 11 league appearances and nine starts, contributing to their victories in both the league and FA Cup.

Leupolz initially joined Chelsea in March 2020 from Bayern Munich and quickly made an impact by reaching the Champions League final in her first season. She went on to win three trophies with Chelsea before taking a break to start a family. In October 2022, she gave birth to her first child and took maternity leave. She made her return to the field in March 2023 and played in seven games that season.

Following her comeback, Leupolz was selected to represent Germany in the Women’s World Cup that summer. After the tournament, she decided to retire from international football. Despite her successful career with Chelsea, Leupolz has now moved on to a new challenge with Real Madrid in Spain. Her talent and experience will surely be missed by Chelsea fans, but they wish her all the best in her new chapter with Real Madrid.
