Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has recently made controversial remarks suggesting that the US is on the brink of losing the Cold War completely. During a speech at the 12th International Legal Forum in St. Petersburg, Medvedev questioned whether the US had truly won the Cold War and argued that Russia was now more powerful than ever before.
Medvedev’s comments align with his current anti-West stance, which has shifted significantly from his initial pro-Western stance when he was elected in 2008. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Medvedev has become increasingly aggressive towards Western countries, making bombastic threats against NATO and even suggesting the use of nuclear weapons in response to potential support for Ukraine.
In addition to his threats against NATO, Medvedev also proposed launching a hypersonic missile at The Hague after an arrest warrant was issued for Putin by the International Criminal Court. He also made outlandish predictions about future conflicts and the collapse of Western nations, including a potential war between France and Germany and speculating that Elon Musk could one day become the US president.
Despite these controversial statements, Medvedev’s representative did not respond to requests for comment from Business Insider. However, it is clear that Russia’s current leaders are taking a much more aggressive stance towards Western countries than they did under previous leaders such as Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin.
